Recently a hunter by the name of Corey Knowlton won a contest to hunt an endangered black rhinoceros presented by the Dallas Safari Club. He is a professional hunter who was once co-host of an Outdoor Channel hunting show. His biography is full of the 'triumphs' of his animal killing career.

Knowlton has falsely tried to present himself as a conservationist. That he will put money into the saving of the black rhino species. While giving native Namibians (where the hunt will take place) the meat as some kind of ridiculous gesture for the starving. His foolishness of course raised the ire of true conservationists and other less polite detractors. So much so that the beleaguered big game hunter says he feels 'threatened'.

You can see some true information regarding the rhinos and who is really trying to keep them from extinction below. Also the dangers they face from hunters not so unlike Mr. Knowlton except that they hunt illegally. One subspecies has already been declared extinct.

The students in the third link above are the true conservationists and the true heroes. Not Mr. Knowlton. Mr. Knowlton is just a hunter taking a perverse pleasure in killing a creature close to non-existence. It is a twisted and warped response to the crisis surrounding the black rhino population. Far from aiding them he is speeding their demise. Once gone they can not be restored. Another sad loss for our planet which has seen the extinction of species in recent times at an unprecedented level. Mr. Knowlton is a disgrace and shows us what many in the hunting community are really about. Gratuitous self glorification and nothing more.
We also don't believe his 'my life is threatened' garbage. It's an excuse the gun/hunting rights crazies use all the time to discredit those concerned with gun safety and species conservation. When in fact they are really the fanatics. Only an over the top, extremist personality hunts and kills a creature he knows is close to extinction. We at SU have no sympathy for him whatsoever, and find him to be not believable.
